hi dear. As per my opinion, the best book for the base of analytical chemistry is Analytical chemistry by J. Christian. I can also suggest one another good book that is Analytical Chemistry by K. Conner
Skoog/West/Holler: Fundamental of Analytical Chemistry
Harris: Quantitative Chemical Analysis
For practical details:
Jeffery/Bassett/Mendham/Denny: Vogel's Textbook of Quantitative Chemical Analysis
For instrumentation:
Willard/Merritt/Dean/Settle: Instrumental Methods of Analysis
There are separate books on individual techniques, such as AAS, ICP-MS, GC, HPLC, sample preparation. I shall be glad to include in the list in case readers are interested in.
After 20 years of teaching analytical chemistry I would suggest any of the books by Skoog (I prefer Fundamentals) or Quantitative Chemical Analysis by Harris
The best book to understand basic of Analytical Chemistry is
Instrumental methods for Chemical Analysis. It is written by B.K Sharma. Publisher is Goel Publishing House, Meerut. This book is written in very simple way.
Agree with all of those suggestions; however check out the Analytical Digital Sciences Library. (http://www.asdlib.org/index.php). There is a link there for David Harvey's text book which is a free downloadable pdf.
All the books mention by our scientist are outstanding for basic analytical chemistry.
I can only tell to you my dear friend philosophically that analytical chemistry is like god for us and books are different religion but ultimately it reaches towards god that is towards destination.
The most widely used analytical chemistry textbook in the world, Dan Harris's Quantitative Chemical Analysis provides a sound physical understanding of the principles of analytical chemistry, showing how these principles are applied in chemistry and related disciplines—especially in life sciences and environmental science. As always, the new edition incorporates real data, spreadsheets, and a wealth of applications, in a witty, personable presentation that engages students without compromising the depth necessary for a thorough and practical understanding of analytical chemistry.
I agree with all of those suggestions showed, but after years learnig and teaching analytical chemistry I would suggest any of the books by Gary D Christian and Skoog Douglas or Quantitative Chemical Analysis by Harris
No doubt, Fundermentals of Analytical Chemistry by Doglous A. SKOOG still remains the most widely used while others like Analytical Chemistry by Gary D. Christian, Quantitative methods the book by Vogel, are complimentary. Friend use them all.
Principles of Analytical Chemistry by M. Valcárcel Cases. Although Principles of Instrumental Analysis by Skoog et al and Fundamentals of analytical chemistry by Skoog et al are my personal favorites:)
It really depends on what you want to learn. Analytical chemicsity is a very broad topic. For general understanding,I recommend Modern Analytical Chemistry by David Harvey
Analytical chemistry by O.G.Palanna and analytical chemistry by skoog,Analytical Chemistry by Higson all offer good information about the basics of analytical chemistry.
My favorite book is the Quantitative chemical analysis written by Daniel C. Harris. For general understanding about Analytical chemistry, you can find your answers.
When I was teaching analytical chemistry six years ago, I suggested for them (students) these books: Fundamentals of analytical chemistry (Skoog, Douglas A.; West, Donald M.); Quantitative chemical analysis written by Daniel C. Harris and A. Voguel. But, there are others interesting books!
Analytical Chemistry by Gary D Christian is a very good book and Fundamentals of analytical chemistry (Skoog, Douglas A.; West, Donald M.); Quantitative chemical analysis written by Daniel C. Harris and A. Vogel.
If you are interested in Analytical Chemistry you can enroll for a free online class from Coursera; here https://www.coursera.org/course/analyticalchem
Patrick Atheba you can get brand new 9th Edition from Amazon for $265 here; http://www.amazon.com/Fundamentals-Analytical-Chemistry-Douglas-Skoog/dp/0495558281/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1366065299&sr=8-2&keywords=skoog+west
or a used 8th edition for $12 here http://www.amazon.com/Fundamentals-Analytical-Chemistry-CD-ROM-InfoTrac/dp/0030355230/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1366065299&sr=8-1&keywords=skoog+west
"Analytical Chemistry: An Introduction" by D.A. Skoog et al., "Modern Analytical Chemistry" by D. Harvey and "Contemporary Chemical Analysis" by J.F. Rubinson & K.A. Rubinson are good alternatives.
Another option is: Quantitative Chemical Analysis - DC Harris [W. H. Freeman and Company, 7E, 2007].
For basic concepts (ie non-instrumental) there is very interesting book: D. Pietrzyk J., Frank, C. W. Analytical Chemistry - An introduction, Academic Press: New York, 1974.
I read GD Christian's "Analytical Chemistry" but I would suggest reading from a number of books and then deciding on one as core because sometimes one author's explanation of a concept is better than another's.
Quantitative Analytical Chemistry - D. Harris - 8th Edition
ISBN-10: 1429263091 | ISBN-13: 978-1429263092
The new edition incorporates real data, spreadsheets, and a wealth of applications, in a witty, personable presentation that engages students without compromising the depth necessary for a thorough and practical understanding of analytical chemistry.
