Air holes in the crystal fibers have unlocked entirely new properties for photonic crystal fibers such as broad spectrum performance, improved spot size control and wavelength selectivity.
Miami Mohammed - Miami, I agree with (Yuri Mirgorod) Yuir and would like to add a separate idea that describes air holes along the cladding of the fiber. I admit I don't understand this idea and I'll leave it to both of you decide if its applicable. The 2022 article is titled, "Effects of air holes in the cladding of photonic crystal fibers on dispersion and confinement loss of orbital angular momentum modes” by Haihao Fu, Ying Shi, Zao Yi, Chao Liu.
