What is the alternative for post hoc in case of Barnard’s exact test?

I have 3 comparison groups and categorical variable with 7 levels ("Unemployed", "Usual work" and so on). For some cells number of observations are less than 5, hence, I cannot use Chi-square with post hoc.

Any suggestions?

I believe you can use (adjusted) Pearson residuals or Chi-square partitioning as a post hoc test though some expected counts are less than five.

You could also consider forming a log-linear model and test group differences.
