Is the mechanism between silica and palm oil based on polar-polar interaction between OH groups from silica and OH groups from palm oil? and what typenof adsorption it is? Chemical or physical?
The functional composition of the oils is esters of glycerol and fatty acids. They have the ester functional group -CO-O-. On the surface of silica, these groups will interact with the hydroxyl groups of silica due to the non-covalent electrons of the ester groups. Consequently, chemical adsorption will be observed.
