I'm doing a dynamic analysis with finite elements to a diaphragm wall and need to find global damage limits according to the displacement at the crown.
The displacement or let say the drift (relative displacement) criteria should be defined with respect with the limit state/performance goals you set. For example IO, LS or CP (FEMA designation). If you have a capacity diagram of the structure (Base shear vs top displacement) you can identify those limiting drift ratios.
