I submitted a paper to a reputable journal, two months later, I sent to the editor to inquire about the status of the manuscript, he confirmed that he received only one review, the problem is that he sent the manuscript to a large number of potential reviewers, but did not receive a response, is there a possibility that it will be rejected if a second reviewer could not be obtained ?
Dear Tamer, this is certainly a rather unfortunate situation. It depends on what the first reviewer suggested. If the review was positive (accept or minor revision) and no other reviewer can be found, chances are that the editor accepts the paper just based on this single review. I can remember one occasion where the first reviewer suggested minor revision and the second did not respond. In the end the paper was accepted. Normally, reputable journals select potential reviewers carefully based on their areas of expertise. Did you make sure that the research topic of your manuscript perfectly matched the scope of the journal? One of the possible reasons why several reviewers did not respond could be that the research topic did not really match the scope of the journal. Also make sure that your manuscript is written in good English and is easy to read. As a reviewer I have seen manuscripts which were really tiring to read and did not motivate me to write a review. This is just a suggestion from my side to think abgout possible reasons why the reviewers did not respond (or perhaps declined the reviewer invitation). Good luck with your work!
The journal should work harder or the Editor should make a decision. I would certainly take action.
The paper submitted to a reputable journal, and if second reviewer,s report could not be obtained, then editor will send it to third referee.
