In collider physics I have frequently come across H_T cut over jet momenta. How do we define this quantity and what is the physical reason for applying this apart from missing energy cut?
We define H_T as sum of jet transverse momentas i.e. if you have two jets in your final states then H_T =p_T(j1) + p_T(j2).
Thank you so much Shibananda, but could you please elaborate what is the physical reason that this kind of a cut is defined? I mean missing energy cut is something which is explainable why people use it, but what is the use of H_T cut?
as far, I know this H_T variable or other variables constructed using this H_T variable helpful for eliminating SM multijet backgrounds(if uyour interested final state is say for example multijet+MET). You can look this paper of Subhadeepda 1511.09284, Section 3.1 onwards for this type of variables. I was trying to provide some expt. reference. For the time being, I am not getting. Later, I will send.
