The two areas that might result in new memory devices are the interaction of ferroelectric materials with Graphene and compound materials that allow electric field switching of magnetic polarisation. Those are the subjects on my desk at the moment along with some outstanding unanswered questions in relation to memory effects in oxide based ReRAMs.
