I have been assigned to a project and it is looking more and more like speech recognition is going to be mandatory and not just a nice feature. Can anyone recommend some books or lectures or papers or videos that act as nice spring boards for learning about this topic? I already have some background in machine learning but that is mainly recommender systems and text mining. I need a semi-soft introduction to this field as far as the theory goes. Any suggestions?

Speech and Language Processing by: Daniel Jurafsky and James Martin.
When I started with speech recognition and wanted to build a system for myself to help me understand the theory, I used the book :
Speech Recognition theory and C++ implementation by: Claudio Bechetti and Lucio Prina Ricotti.
The book has not been updated but it helped me a lot with the basics of a full system and to put the theory in context.
