Why the "formation" process of a lithium-ion coin cell called so?
Also please recommend some good articles about formation protocoles or processes for research coin cells (full cells and half cells). I want to know which types of electrochemical test could used for the formation of freshly assemled coin cell, I mean only charge and discharge cycling used or other methodes like cyclic voltammetry could be used for formation of a cell.

The name refers to the formation of the SEI layer (on the anode/electrolyte interface). Since the SEI composition is dependent on the electrode materials and electrolyte chemistry, the protocol used could depend on almost every variable in the cell - do keep that in mind when filtering your search of articles. Finally, the only electrochemical test that most peer reviewers will look at is charge-discharge curves, so if you want a chance at publication then you'd better put all your efforts into that test.
