Example: If Nd atom (or say a thin layer of Nd atoms) is place between two Fe atoms, will there be exchange coupling or decoupling between the two Fe atoms? How about the interaction of Fe-Nd, is it exchange coupling?

Magnetic Materials. But I want to understand the very fundamental of it at atomic level. So the question is valid and complete. I have explained the question, If Nd atom (or say a thin layer of Nd atoms) is place between two Fe atoms, will there be exchange coupling or decoupling between the two Fe atoms? How about the interaction of Fe-Nd, is it exchange coupling/exchange interaction?
