We are producing some plastic materials for home appliance from PA66 and PA6 and I just wonder, is that some specific point that, ready plastic material has possess properties which comes from PA66 or PA6. Actually, how we can choose the raw material (PA66 or PA6) which is good from ready material?
PA 6 and PA 66 are fairly similar and has distinct properties. One of the major difference is its melting point. PA 6 has low melting point whereas PA 66 has higher melting point. So concerning applications, PA 6 is mostly used for automotive, pulleys and gears etc whereas PA 66 is used in bolts and fasteners and general multipurpose housings.
So keeping in mind the characteristics, PA 66 is used is high performing products where durability is the concern to avoid wear, tear and to withstand at higher temperatures, such as friction bearings, battery modules.
Polyamide 6 and Polyamide 66 is thermally stable up to 310°C. The following conditions are recommended while processing PA6/ Polyamide 6 with an injection molding and extrusion techniques are used:
1. The processing temperature during Injection Molding, the melt temperature should be between 240-270°C for (PA6) and 270-300°C for (PA 66).
2. The processing temperature during extrusion should lie between 240 and 270°C for (PA6) and 270 to 290°C for (PA 66).
It is necessary to mention that some processing properties can be distinguished from physical properties of polymers such as shrinkage, coefficient of linear thermal expansion, max continuous Service Temperature, and dimensional stability.
