Is compressive strength of cubes (50x50mm) is greater than compressive strength of broken pieces of prism (40mmx40mm) or less. if less than which factor is introduced to compare these results.
i need detail answer. more over suggest the reference papers.
Some international standards give relations between different sizes of concrete cubes. But what do you mean by broken pieces of prism ?
Prism (cement mortar specimen for flexural strength test 160x40x40mm) and after flexural test broken pieces can be used to determine compressive strength of same prism)
Compressive strength of cement, mortar or concrete is affected by the shape. Cube is more stable shape and the strength will be higher than the cylinder. In my opinion broken pieces of prism will exhibit lower strength than the cubes. The strength of broken pieces will be governed by the shape and size as well as they would have gone through the test so may contain many micro cracks. Roughly it may be 70% to 80% of the cube strength

The cube compressive strength will be lower than prismatic compressive strength
