The lambda max of Cyclosporine A is 210-215nm as mentioned in many reports. Since they have mostly done HPLC, the solvent used is acetonitrile. I tried taking a full scan from 200-800 of my Cyclosporine A by UV using ethanol as solvent, but the lambda max obtained was 230nm. What could be the reason behind this shift? What could this imply about the purity of my Cyclosporine A powder?
Could I use the same drug for further experiments, as this drug was really expensive. I would be really grateful for any answers.

According to the enclosed study, the conformation of cyclosporin A is different in different solvents.
So you have to look in the literature for the Lambda max in the solvent you are actuallly using.

Wavelength spectral measurements are always relative to the solvent used as the reference. When using a solvent such as ethanol which absorbs more light in the low UV region than ACN does, a difference should be expected.
It is due to effect of Solvent causing bathochromic (Red Shift). Please check the stability of solution. If your absorption maxima is fixed at 218 then no problem go ahead.
Thank you everyone for the answers. With your comments in consideration, I dissolved Cyclosporine in Acetonitrile and took a full spectrum using UV spectrophotometer. I got a peak for Cyclosporine at 210nm.
