An AI is a computer system that is able to perform tasks that ordinarily require human intelligence. These artificial intelligence systems are powered by machine learning. A computation is strict, repeatable, linear, as the word says, it computes. Even on one data record, it produces a 100% repeatable result. AI is also algorithmic, and clearly, it is a computation. But the goal and approach is different. AI looks at the data, even if it's unstructured data (not clean records, but e.g. a picture) by drawing "blurred" conclusions. This may better be explained in an example: If you computationally compare two pictures, the are equal if all their bits are equal. One bit difference, different pictures. AI would look at a number of pictures, let's say 100 pictures of a tree and 100 pictures of a cat. All 100 tree pictures are computationally different, but looking "blurred", still all trees. Here, the link to a human brain is suitable, because we can easily identify blurs although the bits on our retina are different. So, we must have some kind of a blurry comparision algorithm in our brain. Ok, there must be some similarity in the data of all the trees. And there is some similarity in the 100 cats pictures. So, if we "teach" the AI with trees and cats pictures, it may then be able to make a "blurry" comparison between the data of all the trees versus the cats and a new picture 201, and the AI algorithm may decide whether picture 201 is more likely a tree or a cat. I appreciate that this definition leads us very much into ML only, and there are authors who also say that statistical and some other decision making algorithms deserve to be AI. There is also a prominent definition coming from the result: It's AI, if it does a complex task more or less in the same way / quality as a human. But even this wider definition of AI also strictly requires that there is automated learning.

This is a question, no doubt.

I made funny answer, but philosophy would recognise the truth one day.

Human brain is most perfect organ in our body.

One thing I found here, is lack of originality, invention,and creative thinking. People use answers that are already shared via web.

And conclusions are.... without original thought, creative thinking, and skills that are only humans able to provide, the intelligence stop to exist.

It is fake, plagiarism, ...., And academia should consider this kind of a "new way of knowledge production" as a worst product of learning process!

And, since you have a IIT background, you are one of the best persons to answer this question. But still you have done the right thing by putting forward it in front of scientists and researchers from around the world.

Alam, I hope you don't mind me calling you by your name, one of the most fascinating aspects of the modern era is that the same thing is looked at from different angles by different people. That is why, in this era, it is happening for the first time in human history that we are getting definitions, meanings and explanations of the same thing which are in contrast to each other, yet all of them are correct and hence acceptable.

I am a behavioral scientist and would look at AI from that standpoint. I would define it as that intelligence which has been created by man to save time, energy and money. Its prime purpose is to provide man the opportunity to relax and get more done at the same time. Thus, AI can be looked as a task doer, as a tireless force, as an honest doer and as a peace keeper. I am calling it a "peace keeper" because by doing tasks quickly, it produces relaxation and maintains peace of the human minds. The biggest advantage of it is that it doesn't get drifted or influenced by someone.

One thing that I dislike in it, is its inherent tendency to challenge its creator. It makes me remember Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein".
