I want to know the roles microorganisms play in drug safety and would also like to get journals on this.
Drug quality and safety is the most important aspect of microbiological testing pharmaceutical products. The presence of any pathogenic bacteria, yeasts, moulds or bacterial toxins produced by microorganisms is strictly regulated to ensure prevention of any risk.
Drug safety is a major requisite during the drug manufacturing process and it comes under pharmaceutical microbiology. The Pathogenic bacteria, fungi and toxins produced by microbes are possible contaminants of medicines. This contamination can alter the composition of the medication apart from making the drug unsafe for use.
Pharmaceutical Microbiology involves the study of microorganisms associated with the manufacture of pharmaceuticals.
The main idea is to minimize the number of microorganisms in a process, excluding microorganisms and microbial biproducts like exotoxin and endotoxin from water and other starting materials, and ensuring the finished pharmaceutical product is sterile.
The finished product must undergo quality assessment before hitting the market for sales to ensure safety and quality of the medication.
