Someone tells me that thinking is the act of producing ideas, but someone else considers assimilation and accommodation as thinking also. I am not sure which one is true.  .

In my opinion, these two claims are different. But, I prefer to define thinking as the act of producing ideas. If I just follow Bloom Taxonomy, recalling, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating are types of thinking activities. In its simplest thinking activity, I can just recall any information in my schema to produce an idea on how to handle something. But, I can also have to make a higher order thinking skills such as analyzing, evaluating, and creating to develop a better idea to handle a problem.

On the other hand, assimilation and accommodation are two types of schema structuring/restructuring activities. Having considered the existence of new information. someone has to decide whether they have to change their scheme structure or not. If this new information is to be accepted with no need to change the schema structure, then this is an assimilation. But, if this new information imply us to change a little bit our schema structure, this is an accomodation.

So... those two claims are different.  But... is it true?

Is there anybody who can help me better understand what is thinking actually? What kind of mind activities can be considered as thinking?

Thank you very much for your responses.
