What is a methanol bath? what are its applications? ?

I found a procedure where a solution in cast on a plate and the plate is immersed in methanol bath.

Its just a cooling bath (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooling_bath) to maintain low temp. Methanol has very low viscosity and good heat dissipation properties. So generally its used as a good heat absorver to maintain low temperature of once reaction. Sometimes its also used as anti freezing agent as Methanol has low freezing point of -97.6 °C.
