It's been a while since I have reevaluated my microphone. I currently use an Audiotechnica ATM73a. The boom on the mic is too small for many older adults, and the temple pads are painful. SO, I'm in the market for a good (i.e., flat response) condenser microphone for acoustics research. (there should be no other active processing of the sound.) Does anyone have a recommendation for a head-worn mic? Thanks in advance!

I have had same problem as well and I am looking to buy new microphones. Below are some options
1. Shure beta 53
2. AKG C544L (check for proximity effect in the frequency response curve)
3. Shure WH30 (check proximity effect)
It's hard to beat the Countryman E6. If you get the omnidirectional model, there are no worries about proximity effect.
I think the Shure beta 53 is exactly what I am looking for - I am not sure whether the Countryman has some filtering or noise cancellation happening. Any feedback on the length of the boom Supraja? It looks short. It looks comfortable though!
If you want a dual-earhook mic, the beta 53 is fine. No, the E6 omni does not have noise cancellation or filtering. The cardioid version -- and I think pretty much all cardioid earset mics -- probably has a low-frequency rolloff. Some people prefer the single earhook, and others prefer dual ones.
Thanks for the info Richard. Yes I agree that a low freq rolloff is pretty standard (some more than others). That is a good point you make about the earhooks and something I will have to take into account. I have typically used a single earhook.
I have not used shure beta53 and therefore I do not have a good idea about the length. I agree that it looks comfortable.
