I am interesting in measuring chl-a and colored dissolved organic matter within seawater. I am wonder if there are accurate field instruments to measure these two variables.
Can someone suggest some field instruments to measure these two variables within seawater?

The chlorophyll present in seawater can be extracted with acetone and the intensity of color is measured by spectrophotometer at different wavelengths for the measurement of various pigments with the help of equations that have been outlined in standard methods.
We use Xylem 6600s for field measurement of chlorophyll a. You can report as ug/L (we treat this as a semiquantitative guide rather than an absolute concentration) or as relative fluorescence units which can be calibrated against lab based extraction samples to give you field concentrations. This instrument won't do CDOM, but it does do turbidity if that is of interest. We're in the process of switching over to their Exo sondes, which can be fitted with a DOM sensor.
