Greetings! I am an entrepreneur who is working with some colleagues to develop an application that allows AFIB patients to keep track of the occurrence of episodes and their length. The advantage of this application is that the information can be shared with their health care provider at the time of service to allow them to design treatment plans to improve the quality of care and reduce the cost of repeated care for their office.
We are interested in talking to health care providers and researchers involved with AFIB to hear what sort of information would be most valuable to them. We have an outline of the remote monitoring system and would like to get some feedback on features that would provide the greatest value to both health care provider and patient. well ..we are already providing cardiac beepers to transmit the rythm to us in post surgical patients till few weeks after surgery specialy those who are prone to develop arrthmias of any nature..
Thanks for that input, Ankush! The members of our team are looking to develop their model to provide additional information beyond surgical interventions. It's something that they're interested in improving and will continue to work on it, so any feedback that we receive, I'll gladly pass on to them (although my involvement with the project will be ending soon :-)
I guess that this remote monitoring would be of help in patients after AF/AU ablation (classic or hybrid) to determine wether they should continue with anticoagulation therapy and whether the procedure was successful. There are two reasons this could apply to them: first being that a lot of patients do no feel arrhythmias and the second insertable devices (Reveal etc.) are nevertheless invasive gadgets that a lot of patients do not like.
Two parameters that would be particularly useful are heart-rate variability and a-fib duration. There are relatively simple algorithms that have been available for many years to capture and report these parameters. If I can help further, please let me know.
