The climatic condition is Sub tropical with rainfall of about 2500mm per annum. Main crops being rice and maize. Location NE India. Fallow period 5 to 20 years
I think this depends strongly on the specific condititions. Could you be more precise? (country? region? ecosystem? climate? main crops? years of fallow? etc..)
Agri -horti-forestry can be a better option to enable the local families to earn their livelihood, while facilitating soil and water conservation, promoting biodiversity and improving micro-climate. Tree based farming is an excellent tool to mitigate global warming.
