Please give an example of a scientific hypothesis about Antarctica that has not yet been confirmed. I am also interested in the gaps in scientific knowledge about Antarctica. As a member of Russian Antarctic program I am familiar with general enigmas (ice sheet stability, life in subglacial lakes, paleoclimatic records, influence of subglacial heat flows etc.). So here I would like you to share with me not so common things about Antarctica

Theories are confirmed hypotheses. So what you are asking is what are the fundamental hypotheses of which I think there are none. But what is the big unknown is how fast the Antarctic ice sheet will melt as a result of global warming.

In my artcle on RG 'The driving forces of tectonic activity' a hypothesis on the geological future of Antartica is developed. In my view Antartica of today is the remant of a supercontinent ( pangea) and will ultimatly break up when a new artic supercontinet will be formed.

As I am not a geologist I don't have the ambition to submit it to a journal. In fact I am a retired cardiologist, I developed my hypothesis on the likeness of the the forces that govern the bloodstream in the human body and the flow in the asthenosphere. That the tilt of the earth could cause the driving force was an inspiration that came when I walked on the beach. I knew that the sea level was higher in winter and I realised that the same force must act on the asthenosphere.
If you want to publish a worked-out version in a peer-reviewed journal we can collaborate but remember that I am not a geologist, my contribution can only be the original idea as explained in the article on RG.
The role of volcanic activity as a significant factor contributing to ice melt still awaits a confirmation. For some further details please kindly consult the following sites:
