I'm interested in strategies and tools in reducing participant drop-out in long-term studies and I am looking for any advice or practical tips anyone has to offer.
Thanks Amanda. The participants would be adults and the study over a five-year period. Newsletters sound a good idea. Have you used user-focus groups to enhance a sense of belonging and camaradie?
We, in our cohort (follow up) study, are using greeting cards on the occasions of Christmas, Eid, Easter, Diwali (and so on) to develop a sense of belonging among the participants.
Regarding your question related to user-focus groups might be practical only when you have a reasonable number of participants so that these focus groups discussions can be feasible and managed well with in time. With us, since we have large number of participants to follow, we can't really opt for it and hence can't comment about its usefulness.
Retaining mobile numbers, sending greetings from time to time and thanking them for being part of your research might also be helpful.
