Shrewd analysis! I humbly think they compliment each other (but intelligence sharpens/hones experience in a way that makes it extended as you suggest).
Knowledge from BOOK, and knowledge from EXPERIENCE.
A lot of new discoveries come from experience. The resulted knowledge from experience is more useful than knowledge from books. Experience can verify the basic and applied knowledge.
My comment my be a 1-dimensional description.
Look for hearing from other RGers with higher knowledge and experience than me.
These extremely different skills , work experience and emotional intelligence are valued by managers in business and make a difference in situations of crisis , for example.
Emotional intelligence is very instinctive , and is the result of the skills that man develops in your life . Separating those which are most widely used are : leadership , flexibility , focus on results , creativity , decision making , job pressure among numerous other factors .
Deciding whether something is professionally based on data and facts , not on intrigue or emotion of the moment. You stop , reflect and decide only after considering all the aspects involved in the situation . You use the reason , being emotionally intelligent .
Life teaches us ( the attempted trial and error , or the mistakes of others ) how to handle every type of person , in every kind of situation , in every situation ( professional, personal ) , with each group of people ( coworkers , friends , family
Experience in a function is passing through several different positions in the occupational hierarchy , while the study , which should run parallel to it , will help deepen technical knowledge .
The sum of experience with emotional intelligence is that each professional is , with its specific peculiarities . These two skills directly interfere with the work at all levels
Knowledge gives you strength to overcome problems... Experience gives you strength to solve the problems and makes people learn from you the way you deal with the critical situations... Both are very important..
Experience without knowledge and Knowledge without experience can help you only in few situations.
Experienced people seems intelligent while they are probably not.
While Intelligent people gained experience faster than others, and are mostly guided by their intelligence to the best practices that give them experience.
Intelligence is God given and has no substitute but experience is a blessing that God has given to each and every one of us to learn from and utilize in our daily lives.
It is a great question. The knowledge can be divided into:
Knowledge from referenced books, and knowledge from experience. Most discoveries came from experience. The knowledge from experience is much useful than knowledge from books. Experience can prove the basic knowledge.
Dear András, your clear analysis is imposing, you save a lot of my time. My first contradiction when reading the question was: Intelligence is not knowledge. Respect and acknowledgement
Intelligence is more important, it is always based on experience while experience may not be based on or linked to intelligence. Likewise, knowledge and intelligence are not the same thing, knowledge is always some part of any type of intelligence (there are many types of intelligence regarding various skills). On the other hand, knowledge per se is not enough to conclude one is intelligent. And knowledge without understanding and passion is simply deplorable.
@Marwan, success is not a disjunction but the conjunction of both the intelligence and experience, as well as many of my predecessors said. But I have to quote the following section:"Intelligence allows us to at least potentially progress faster while experience allows us to avoid making mistakes as we make progress..."
Intelligence and Experience both are needed side by side.
Ones worth depends on the task or work on which you need to apply them. For example while driving, it is your experience which worth more than your intelligence and while writing your examination, it is your intelligence which is worth more.
Intelligence is an inherited ability it is not based on experience but at a little level. I do not think that a dull person is able to get experience without intelligence.
Knowledge is a result, an aim, the end point. The intelligence is the way to knowledge. If you do not go along the way you cannot reach your objective.
Certainly, there are various kinds of intelligence. Really talented artists and scientists (e.g. Leonardo da Vinci, Rafaello Santi, Albert Einstein) – with a lot of intelligence but with a modest experience (look at their actual age at the moment of their working!) - were able to create grand things.
Without intelligence going along the way one will stagger in the darkness and will find nothing valuable.
Intelligence is the process of obtaining the refined knowledge from the application of the raw theoretical knowledge. It is always good to be intelligent and have a good experience by the application of right theoretical knowledge at the right time. This application is done through intelligence.
I accept @ Prof. Shibu. In my point of you, Experience come under practice. Intelligence not in the same manner. But without intelligence no one can practice.
Experience without intelligence is just information or a walking encyclopedia.
Intelligence without experience is knowledge and knowledge without experience is unwise.
Experiences can be bought (and some say they are better than stuff). Intelligence can not be bought with money (but some say it can be developed through effort and time).

My dearest friends, Kamal and Ljubomir, Thank you for the over kind words. I'll make certain I deserve them! If I add quality to anything, you add constructive, in-depth, empirical knowledge and sublimity of thought and complexity of intellectual demand. I'm privileged to consider you among my most intimate friends and knowledgeable scientists ever!
Nor are the rest of you forgotten, present and absent alike. One of the biggest blessings of RG, given all the cons, is that it has forced us to be an inseparable community of scholars/friends/acquaintances/colleagues from the four corners of the globe!
Experiencie and intelligence are related, of course. But wath kind of experience? Psicoanalitics Theory show the links betwen intelegency and intrapsiquical objtects, where the links withs parental figures, are fundamentals. The intelligence is, in this terms, a way of sujet's development. A casusitic approach, the individuals stories, are so necesary as narrative methods.
Thanks Mr Marwan, Like for example, I have intelligence but only after some experience I knew many things about and vision of RG, so intelligence and experience both counts, and with intelligence and experience together I can understand all issues in research, teaching and my daily works / deeds as well as answering/discussing on RG
Even though the foundation of knowledge is experience intelligence must be valued more. It helps in rapidly gaining experience in a particular area of concern.
Intelligence is inborn and experience is acquired. Without intelligence, experience cannot be attributed its true value. We need intelligence to give meaning to our experience. Without experience (inner or outer) intelligence cannot stand alone. Each is complementary to the other. Their relative value will be contingent on the context and purpose of the individual.
What should we value more, our intelligence or our experience?
We need to value both because a person with intelligence without experience is a thinker. A person with experience without intelligence is a worker. A person with both intelligence & experience is a perfector.
Personally I feel experience is more worth than intelligence, a person can become intelligent by locking himself in a room and reading or learning from the vast resources available on the internet. But only if he experiences real life situation, he would be in a position to apply his intelligence.
For me, intelligence is good, but experience is better. For example, intelligence without experience (in this case, work experience) is not enough to write a scientific manuscript satisfactorily.
