I am comparing the terrain and volumetric similarities between two sets of dental models. I would like to demonstrate the differences by color coding the overlap (similar to a heatmap). I have approximately 18 comparatives. Which free software or app may i use which can help me create it? Thank you in advance

Mohamad Bakhaidar, I haven't yet been able to find a more straight forward solution. Until now, the best solution that i found was the open source software Cloud compare ( https://www.danielgm.net/cc/ ). I have been doing Fine registration ICP and cloud-mesh-distance within the software which generated a colored histogram similar to a heatmap.
You can perform such overlappings even in Exocad, or normally GOM Inspect or Geomagic, but no chance to get them for free. Perhaps you can find a trial version in their web pages.

It's actually not that difficult to do this in R using Stefan Schlager's excellent Morpho package. This can do everything (ICP superimposition, color maps, etc.) I think it can natively read STL files. If not, you can easily convert STL to PLY files in R as well. If you do not have anybody who knows R, drop me a line. I might be able to help.
Since you are studying dental models, maybe you know Halazonetis' Viewbox software. It isn't free, but if your orthodontic department might be using it. This can do this as well.
Cloud Compare (http://www.danielgm.net/cc/) should do the job easily. It is free software, available on all major OS platforms and has an active community to support it.
Probably visualizing difference images with Meshlab would also work.
As soon as you have a difference image, you can apply any lookup table to color code the differences.
Just a hint:
If you intend to investigate differences in volumes for a longer research period it is worth to learn a programming language and especially to learn how image registration is working. The magic words to start your research might be "iterative closest point" (see Besl and McKay) and all the derived matching algorithms.
I suggest Python using iJupyter as a starting point for programming. There a lots of open source implementations available in Python.

PS: having looked at Hans Wellen's suggestion this sounds to be a very interesting solution, too. However, as often, the software seems to be great, but the documentation is only for expert programmers. I would like to see a tutorial, how to use this nice package. The downside is, you have to learn R as well. R is a great software, but it took me a while to learn, how to use it. But since then it completely replaced SPSS and SAS for me.
