Morality and being a person of values. This is individualistic. Everyone is responsible for their own behavior. Therefore, responsibility is also one of the top most factors. If everyone in an organization takes responsibility of their own actions then it will create the perception of an ethical workplace and this perception will be a reality too. You dont want to create a perception which is just a perception but not reality.
I believe the responsibility is one of the key factor that creates the perception of an ethical work place. Do you think the term Responsibility is close to Self-regulation in the organization?
Thank you Gopi for sharing this with me. From my (long) working experience in four continents I can say that indeed responsibility for the things you do, say or 'share' is a key factor. In addition, a full understanding of the culture, practices and morality of the people you interact with is another key factor. Furthermore, I would argue that respect is yet another key factor, independent on what the 'other side' says, thinks or does.
Indeed respect or I would say mutual respect is another key factor in building the perception. Can you also suggest some of the factors from the leader/boss/supervisor end that contribute in building the perception.
Slowly you get me at the limits of my 'ethical' knowledge! Nevertheless, I will try to respond to your question. First a question though, why would you want to build a PERCEPTION of an ethical workplace? Would it not be more important to build an actual ethical workplace? Aspects that do matter from a supervisor perspective are due respect, a feeling of responsibility for your 'sub-ordinates', preparedness to help, guide and coach as well as to (also publicly) recognize performance.

Your right on the point 'building actual ethical workplace'. However, I am developing a scale to measure organizational ethical work climate and it is going to be a perceptual measure. Hence, I am trying to understand the factors that build the perception.
