I am curious about the importance of the Ball to Powder Ratio (BPR), which has been employed by several researchers as a 10:1 ratio (I have found this in most of the literatures). What criteria will be used to determine BPR? I would like to know how BPR affects particle size reduction.
There are so many factors that are important in the ball milling technique
Ball size
Ball-type (material)
No of balls
'Wet milling or dry milling
Type of solvent for ball milling
RPM of milling
Milling Time
Resting time in between milling
Basically, the balls are important for increasing the shear force between the materials so the material size has been reduced subsequantly.

Higher ball to powder ratio basically means higher energy input into your system due to either more collisions or more energy per hit (using bigger balls). It is very dependent on the material you are going to mill. It cannot be generalized.
