I would like to know what experiential team-based exercises are recommended for teaching strategic management in Msc classes. For example, to introduce vision, mission, strategy, values, policies, etc.
Craig R. Hickman published a book some time ago called 'The Strategy Game'. It is a decision-making training adventure and operates as a 8/9-level decision tree with a scenario described at each of its 67 nodes to guide the players further choices.
The teams' mission is to revitalize MedTech, a troubled $150 million company. In the end, the different outcomes range from triumph to disaster. I have used a number of times in strategy training workshops and the students quite enjoyed it and the discussions it triggered.
There are some games exercises such as: The Blue Chip Game, The Strategy Puzzle, The Paper Chase, Razing the Ivory Tower: Builderific Exercise, It’s a Dog’s Life and etc.
Rozzvbet, cordial greetings. I use exercises based on classics like the Odyssey, I also use excerpts of the Art of War by Sun Tzu. These exercises to reflect on the concept of strategy. then, beginning with Strategic Direccioamiento topics as mission, vision and business ethics
Congrats for choosing an interesting topic for discussion. Your effort is appreciable. I agree with Dr. Umachandran in that we can preferably use the five TASKS.
During my masters in strategic management, we used the Business Strategy Game to get a feel for the main instruments within SM. I highly recommend it. Students are placed within competitive industries (you compete against each other) and you have to try to thrive in said market through the strategic choices you make... . The developers of the game offer great support as well: https://www.bsg-online.com/
