I am working on the history of ancient structures which may be located on the magnetic vortexes of earths surface.i.e. What happens to any object placed in this area? Will it experience additional gravitational pull or the reversal?
Presumably, rocks take on the magnetic field of the Earth at the time of solidification from magma for basic (iron rich) intrusive and extrusive igneous rocks or sedimentation and lithification of sediments (especially those which have iron minerals). So magnetism is imprinted in the rocks very early in their history. The orientations of rock magnetism should be affected by the orientations in a magnetic vortex at the locality in which the rocks were formed. However, I do not believe that there is an additional gravitational pull due to magnetism. It is said that magnetic vortexes in the Earth's core are responsible for magnetic reversals. However rocks record whatever magnetic field exits at the site of their formation only at the time of their formation.
