In the Netherlands student teachers in university based teacher education have to perform practitioner research as part of their one year program. The assumption is that student teacher research contributes to teaching competencies, an academic attitude etc. However teacher educators do not agree on this matter, some consider research important, others feel it is not important for student teachers to do research they 'just need an academic attitude'. I am curious what your ideas are about this matter.
