Hello, I have some trouble in my statistical results, here is the problem:

I performed a mixed effect model on the dependent variable D and the two independent variables I1 (3 modalities: A, B, C) and I2 (two modalities: 1, 2).

The result is as follow:

- Significant effect of I1

- Unsignificant effect of I2

- Unsignificant effect of the interaction I1 X I2

Then I added three constrasts:

1) a contrast between the modalities A and C (for all modalities of I2)

2) a contrast between the modalities A and C when I2 = 1

3) a contrast between the modalities A and C when I2 = 2

The result of constrasts is as follow:

- Significant contrast 1

- Significant contrast 2

- Unsignificant contrast 3

The interaction effect I1 X I2 should not have been significant in this case?

What does mean: a significant global contrast and a significant one modality (I2=2) constrast but no significant interaction?

Thank you.
