Landau damping happens to the longitudinal plasma waves. Since no longitudinal plasma waves occur in nanoparticles, these are not related at all.

Thanks for the links, actually the paper"How to deal with the loss in P&M" is exactly the trigger that I learned of the absorption mechanisms in metals as well as the acquaintance with Landau damping.

I am wondering if the size of metal shrinks to nano-scale, the dominant absorption is caused mainly by Landau damping which is Surface Plasmon Polaritons(SPP) assisted. And the absorption of photons is mostly transferred into the kinetic energy of electrons. So that the collisions occur more frequently.

What do you think of this? That is just how I imagine the model working...

Attached wonder, till how large of nanoparticles would Landau damping vanish in absorption mechanisms?
