My students bought me a t-shirt that says: "I became a professor for the money and the fame". Of course the joke being that there is very little of either involved in this profession. I like to teach and share with my students, I consider it to be giving back for the wonderful education that I received and to help guide the next generation into our profession. I do accomplish research. My latest book came out this month, but it is not my primary goal at the university. By the way, I do wear the T-shirt!
Teaching because we do not go into the profession for the money, although I think we are all underpaid compared to professional athletes. We teach them and they make the millions, there is something wrong with that picture! :)
Research is important as I see it as a source of motivation outside of the academic discipline. For example, I teach in a department but to keep me motivated my research/conference presentations are outside of the discipline but aligned which brings a fresh perspective to the teaching!
Money is important but does it help you sleep at night?
There is no doubt that money is important in our lives, and it is one of the things that most people seek, but if we do not have a lot of money this is not a cause for concern, there are many things that are more valuable than money
Money is not everything for life. Happiness, love and friendship can not be bought with money
No one denies the importance of science, but I believe that life is what creates science.
Teaching as a career , you have to be researchers as well, and the money comes along the way that you can live adequately comfortable life, if not luxurious life.
Thank you all for your prompt reply and interesting comments. I am glad to know that most teachers do not think of their work as a job, but as a calling. A good number of us went into the profession not for money sake but to serve society and contribute to the advancement of humanity.

The most important thing that education provides is that it is a way to make money, it meets the basic needs of life and helps to give the person an excellent reputation and status among people to grow and develop in his career and achieve his dreams, and provides a stable and comfortable life for people and helps them to live in luxury and improve the standard of living And creates a real difference in the quality of life
Education helps to acquire knowledge, access to information and knowledge of the world. It also trains the human mind on how to think and gives it the ability to distinguish between right and wrong and how to make decisions. It also contributes to the development of the mind. It also helps him to progress in his career and get jobs easier and allows him to get a higher wage in the job. Research, of course. Money come and go. Teaching is boring. Research inspires.
Nowadays everything seems to be related to and judged with money. However, money is good to a certain extent because there are many things like happiness, inner peace, integrity, character, etc. which money cannot buy. On this basis, I opt for teaching and doing research, the two things that adorn my life with hope and happiness.
If there is a chance to select for myself, value for teaching, research or money. I would with no doubt select money. There is also a saying 'Without Money There Is No Survival'. Hence, whatever the profession as quoted, whether it may be teaching or research, everyone works for money. Everyone struggles themselves in the earlier days of life, earn, spend and be happy for the rest of life with stored money. Nobody will see you if you do not have money. Everyone be recognized and respected in society if you have money. Teaching and Research are professions to work and get money out of it.
To earn money, you have to choose other trades other than teaching or research.
