Civil engineering is rapidly evolving with digital tools, smart materials, and automation. Technologies like AI, BIM, 3D printing, drones, and sustainable materials are already shaping the field. I’d like to hear from researchers and practitioners:
Which technology do you think will have the biggest impact in the next decade?
How do you see it changing design, construction, or maintenance practices?
Focusing on first question, if I had to single out one technology with the biggest impact on civil engineering in the next decade, it would be: Digital Twins powered by AI and IoT.
So, while advanced materials and autonomous robotics will be disruptive, the biggest impact will come from how digital twins reshape decision-making across the whole lifecycle of infrastructure.
integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and robotics. AI will act as the central nervous system, optimizing designs, automating construction processes, and enabling real-time monitoring of infrastructure. T
As per my opinion sustainable development supported by digital things. after 10year most of the people will stay in rural area or in forest area due to environment change. the people use all the digital gazettes, robotics, AI, automation, IoT etc in the area where AQI and other parameter of living is good. so as a civil engineer the next era after 10 year is sustainable environment friendly rural accompanies with digital things
