Science diplomacy is the use of scientific collaborations among nations to address common problems and to build constructive international partnerships. Many experts and groups use a variety of definitions for science diplomacy. However, science diplomacy has become an umbrella term to describe a number of formal or informal technical, research-based, academic or engineering exchanges.

Yes intersectorial coordination and cooperation sans borders will help one and all to achieve the sustainable development goals 2030.

@Evens Emmanuel A good concept to link two countries based on scientific cooperation especially when other means of correspondence and exchanges are prohibited or restricted. It assumes further significance because humanity should not suffer due to failure of political diplomacy.

thank you for the opportunity to read all your opinions about the concept which is pretty new for me - it is very enriching.

I think the scientific diplomacy looks great on paper and it is a beautiful and useful (and a very needed!) idead, however there is still a lot of work to be done in this field. Just for explanation - e.g. I´m from Slovakia and there is still very difficult to cooperate in a real sense, because also colleagues tend to look at each other as a on a rival/competitor what often kills many possibilities for successful projects, publications, etc. Of course, there are bright exceptions and also the situation has started to being better little bit in recent years (the question is if it is natural evolution or the pressure related to EU Funds, grants, etc.), but there is still a lot to do. The most of my successful cooperation comes from abroad, but I cross my fingers every day for more people who will understand the importance of mutual cooperation.

I believe that only together we can make this world better (sounds like a cliche, but I know you understand what I mean).

Dear colleagues, thank you all for your contributions. It's only been a few weeks since I learned about the concept of "Scientific Diplomacy". As pointed out Barbara Pavlikova in his speech, this is a whole new concept for me. However, he calls out to me and encourages me to question myself on several research subjects including: the global water crisis, deforestation, emerging vector-borne diseases, climate change, COVID-19, scientific cooperation between Nord -South, etc.

Scientific diplomacy is about the recognition of scientific and international relations communities, share many common goals. When you are addressing an issue that's as huge climate change. Setting goals and staying on track to meet them can't be done only on national level, it requires international accountability and diplomatic relations.

In my thinking, Scientific Diplomacy also points to the study of every aspect of human endeavour by the Diplomatic Community of nations focusing on data and statistical information that would guide foreign policy formulation and reformulation, that would determine the nature, aspects and dimensions of engagement and relationship among nations.
