What do you think, is it a truth " more time you have, less you can do " ?
It depends on a person's state when s/he starts to have more time e.g. when s/he has a lot of tasks to accomplish or many backlogs to clear e.g. works, markings, readings, research etc. then s/he will carefully plan his / her time to fully utilize it. If a person is idle & have a lot of time to kill, s/he might be less productive or sometimes even counter-productive.
What I have learned from my students is that those who leave the lab component "for later" (because they think they have lots of time) will end up having little time to complete it satisfactorily (they do less).
That is why I give them a warning in the beginning, but they still behave like above. No change, it must be human instinct and Aristides described it well above.
