It seems that both IF and SJR are useful measures. Nevertheless, I have a comment regarding the article by Falagas presented by Gaggioli; The prestige of a journal is not a fixed value, because it fluctuates, a journal that is in Q1 today may be in Q2 after few month. Also, the fact that IF includes only citable items is not a disadvantage, on the contrary, it measures the items that should be measured.
Dear Avishag Gordon, certainly both indicators of prestige are very useful in terms of positioning the journals in terms of the scientific quality of their publications as well as the impact they have on the particular fields of research. The SJR comes to compensate for the disadvantages of the impact factor as a quality metric because, among other aspects, the IF is influenced by the self-citations and the SJR does not. In addition, the SJR takes into account the fact that all cites are not equal in terms of quality.
