Does continuing a doctorate in the same field and having in-depth field knowledge make a more effective contribution to the field and make the person more successful?

Or does it make a more effective contribution to the field and make the person more successful by doing a doctorate in another field close to his field and doing interdisciplinary studies?

And which one do you think is more advantageous in finding academic staff in universities?
