Not many such described journals exist. I did a review for a journal called JHEPGC, and I was comparatively merciless as to how directly I laid into a would be author. As for other journals, there are very few which do what you purported to raise up as an issue. I also am a reviewer for Entropy, and I have been pretty blunt. As far as the garbage article you replied , I rarely see such tripe. That is my experience. And I speak after having had a lot of interactions with say 30 different journals.

I used starting getting mad about such and I agree with Andrew - lots of garbage (which is bad for science)

@Ramana, in response to all this irresponsibility, a university has come to the conclusion that they only recognize research published by Springer, Routledge, and the other highly reputable journals only.

In all fields, authors, editors, publishers should be responsible and genuine.

Notably, mere publication of a paper in journals bereft of publishing standards and requirements is not something to be proud of. I have found the journals listed in Thomson Reuters , very rewarding since they mostly have very strict benchmarks for evaluating the eligibility of the paper before it is actually published. Alternatively, the time it takes, and the suggestions offered by the professional reviewers is really educational and the hints offered can always have an efficient influence on the betterment of the paper quality.

Agree Andrew, and it is worse than that. Unfortunately, psychology experiments are too subjective to pass the editing process inherent in physics and engineering, biology/chemistry

I think now, ISSN is not sufficient to qualify any journal as the large number of predatory journals have been increased nowadays.

The Quartiles presented by SJR is an excellent way to verify the journal index and impact before publication.

I think is also the rrsponsability of peer reviewers

was it actually peer reviewed. Was there an editor who actually did handle this manuscript. It gives me goose-bumps, having to believe that I actually read this paper from a journal.

Many questions behind this. But i think people should know what journal to should trust. The rank, indexing resources, impact factor are few elements to guide them

who will control all these Journals, any paper will be published without any review and revision, these are all money making journals rather than enhancing the scientific knowledge and zeal. We are awaiting a scientific revolution to alter this scenario.

I wish to congratulate you Dr Ramana for posting a very important question and highlighting this crucial aspect that needs serious attention from the scientific community, irrespective of the discipline concerned. It is simply pathetic to observe rubbish, garbage stuff get published in the name of scientific papers, thereby maligning the name of sacred science. There are several journals which publish papers within 1 week or even lesser, based on a certain amount of fees paid by the authors. Quality of papers and journals cannot be assessed only on the basis of time taken for editorial/peer-review process but there should be a basic check on the content of the papers, wherever they are published. Rubbish journals publishing garbage papers full of trash should be immediately banned from getting through further issues and spoiling the scientific environment. I have personally observed certain pathetic papers in my own discipline that should have been rejected but were published in otherwise good journals. I can share those papers if anybody wishes to read them. This hints at the decreasing quality of peer-review process too which needs rectification. Editors should be more responsible towards their duty and predatory journals must be a strict no-no.

Anybody should not submit any article in any journal without peer review facility. The supervisors should not allow the students to submit article in such journals.

Most of the students/researchers feel very proud after completion of writing of his/her first article. Then They want instant publication of that article. As it is not possible to publish articles by any Peer Reviewed journals very quickly, the students/ researchers opt for journals without Peer Review.

But all experienced reviewers know that such articles MUST be reviewed by some very experienced reviewers, otherwise the student will fail to learn the gaps in his/her writing.

If once such article is published, the student may not learn the important points in article writing during rest of his/ her life.

If s/he become a teacher, s/he will produce many such students during the whole service tenure.

I'm desperate about that. I do think that science must be separated from business but that's not the case.

There are many ways to check the integrity of the journal. Submit papers only to those journals which are not listed on any of black-list journals. Share your knowledge with colleagues about such journals and war colleagues about the issue.

It feels like writing a good paper is our responsibility. Since many journals just want to publish whatever you/we submit.
