I have an account there, and I use it sometimes. There, I can also advertise some of my work and link to some people. They also have lots of discussion groups but they have a wider focus than this site: other professionals (e.g. photographers) also use it.
Compared to Facebook, Linkedin is more focused on professionals (you won't see pet & food photos there, and you can't play games), you can share your CV there and also upload some files, participate in discussions, join groups (e.g. on research, teaching, but also the alumni group of your university)... They don't rank scientists by their publications, discussion activities or other citeria.
Initially, Linkedin was a very beautiful instruments to find or request job. Now is a social network, with a lot of advertisement! I've not a good idea on it.
Yes, I do have Linkedin account, and I have attached a link to it. This is massive social network for professionals,300 million of professionals who are sharing connections, ideas, and opportunities. I do use it very rarely. I have some interesting groups there. There are many people from ResearcGate who have the Linkedin account.
LinkedIn is advertisement-based network. Yes, discussion also is the part, but mostly I found company related news or some job or upcoming events or conference. agree with Ljubomir.
That's why my one suggestion to RG to include that concept. Advertisement for related conference or upcoming event , new published work can be highlighted on one side of each topic. Here we are getting to know publication of your followers or whom you are following. To improve RG quality, may be RG can think about this idea.
I think we all need to have alternative profiles, since something maybe will go wrong if we have just a single social media profile. I created recently a LinkedIn account (attached) for reasons of integrity and safety.
Currently I am investigating the possibilities of the new network.
I have an account with Linkedin, but I have not used it since a long time. I believe Linkedin a business network, whereas RG is a network for scholars and researchers.
Really, I become fed up from Linkedin, because unwonted mails always came into personal mail ID, specially Yahoo even I stopped or blocked advertisements.
It's a very strange system. At first, somebody (?) opened my account with the wrong place of my work.I knew about it when I had appeared there. I was taken aback by it. Then there were a lot of followers, mails, requirements. I tried to answer them and the storm was growing. I decided keeping silence. Although the questions are rather interesting, and there are a lot of persons who I know in real life. I think, it's ad.I'm very busy like the members of our RG. Besides, I can't betray.I was met here, I found a lot of interesting personalities, a lot of original Q/A, useful for my field. There is no any reason to change anything.
Yes it is a good social networking site, though it is not so user friendly. We do not find our colleagues often in ready responding mode in it. Hence, it is to be updated fast to make it more useful for all.
I have a presence and use it s an online CV, which has some merit so I update it periodically. The actual networking functions of the site have not engaged me much. When I post to the Linkedin timeline, I make sure it is relevant to my discipline and not the kinds of broader interests I post on Facebook or Twitter.
I have an account in LinkedIn, and got a good and productive communication through it with a useful educationists and practitioners. Very soon, I have developed this account in the Research gate.
It is always useful to be linked with others especially with people who doing the same thing in other parts of the world.
Linkedin very useful for corporate connections and professional networking. It is also to gather information sharing and Organizational group coordination.
Linkedin: Its a growing and already popular social network, especially of professionals. I can introduce myself to my same profession and research community, contact (chat/mail) , share my idea, work, updates thorough it, follow others' work and vice-versa. I can acknowledge others work giving IMO, comments and reviews. I can find my matching job vacancies as well.
However, I do not like one feature that notifying me when anybody see my profile.
