Sometimes when you submit an article to journal or conference, the reviewer from that journal or conference directory connect with you, what do you do in this moments.
All correspondence about your manuscript should go through the editor so that the editor can collate the possibly different opinions of the referees. If this was not so, all sorts of corruption could arise: "Send me money and I will approve your paper" etc.
Even if the referee might want to break protocol to
1. Offer you a job OR
2. Offer to co-author a new paper with you.
Both of these 2 requests can still be routed via the editor.
It is not accepted!! beside that, in many (all) trusted journals, all names including authors, reviewers, and other are completely being hidden, to get an excellent ethics in publication process, so in such a case, you as an author have to immediately inform the journal about this undesired connection. for more information about publication ethics please visit any trusted journal editing procedure. The attached link may help you.

Ethically, it is WRONG for reviewers to contact authors of papers they are reviewing or have reviewed. Disclosing this information weakens the robustness of the research publication process. I don't think reviewers (those who highly respect the rudiments in the research procedural steps) would take such actions. Those who tread that step may be doing so out of their own foul intents. I hardly doubt this would happen in the academia.
However, if this happens, the direction given by Prof. Ian Kennedy would be very appropriate. Doing this would assist the journal review department and the chief editor especially on the folly of the reviewer so that such scholars could be blacklisted. Every good journal would not want any reviewer to taint their highly earned brand or image.
Direct interaction between the author and the reviewers is not appreciated by journals as it goes against the confidentiality policy of the journal.
Even if a journal asks the authors to name a few preferred reviewers, it does not necessarily mean that the paper will be sent to the same reviewers. The selection of reviewers depends entirely on the editor.
When you submit an article for any journal(s)/conference, the editorial staff/staff go/work as per the rules and regulations of that particular journal/conference and contact through mail if needed any corrections or accepted or not accepted, may not immediately in case of journal articles. If come to conference staff may contact for the needful corrections or why it will not suit for that particular conference.
Referees must never approach the authors directly. Otherwise all sorts of corruption can take place!
Furthermore, it undermines the editor, who has the task of homogenising the replies of the referees, and making a fair decision.
If a referee has any query about a paper, e.g., in understanding part of it or in obtaining a reference to verify a citation, this correspondence must still be routed through the editor.
Reviewer does not have right to contact corresponding authors (it's not accepted and unethical). You must contact the editor and the publisher representative immediatly!
It is supposed that reviewers are anonymous and they must be. Therefor, ethically it is not accepted to contact the authors directly. All correspondance must be through the editor.
Concerning your question if a reviewer contacted me directly, I will reply him with CC to the handling editor.
Some journals give the details of authors to reviewers but all correspondence regarding the manuscript should go through the Editor. So reviewers are not permitted to directly contact authors. If you found any violation in publication ethics, then immediately report it to the Editor.
If the reviewer is fascinated by the work of the author and he wants to work with him where to improve his work. He can contact him but after the publication of the article. He contacts him as a researcher and not as a reviewer. Viewer -author contact during the processing of the article is not acceptable
