unfortunately I have no idea to prevent oxidation.

Your XRD pattern looks a) quite amorphous (perhaps due to the oxidised phase) and b) quite noisy.

But there might be residuals of the primary phase of your CrGa₂Te₇ powder.

That (tiny) crystalline phase could only be seen by significantly increasing the aquisition time...

As said above, your powder diffractogram looks like an amorphous sample, or perhaps like a nanoparticles diffractogram. May be if you tell us about a little more information on your procedure for XRD characterization of both samples (SC and powder form), we can underline some issue that you cannot obtain and good powder diffractogram.

How did you obtain that SC pattern? It looks great. That includes sample configuration, hardware, parameters, etc.

What does the vacuum grease look like by itself? My first guess it that it is contributing most of the scattering.

( Warren Straszheim and Steven Van Petegem pointed to that fact; but you too, indeed).

How much vacuum grease do you have used in relation to your powder?

I think, a lot...

10 or even 100 times the mass of the powder? or even more?

In the latter cases you will have a very diluted system and the amorphous XRD signal of the vacuum grease will dominate.

Dear Gerhard Martens, I used the vacuum grease to prevent oxidation of my sample. I even followed the entire procedure of making powder and then mixing it with grease inside the glove box. In relation to my sample, I have used the vacuum grease almost three times.

But your answers does not satisfy my question.

In your net sample material you do not have your sample powder only, but also the vacuum grease. How much of grease material do you have used in relation to the powder material ? (a very rough guess is sufficient)

I fear, that you have only a very little amount of powder compared to the grease.

The grease will a) contribute to the XRD pattern and b) in the case of being very much, it will attenuate the powder XRD signal. Thus, I think, you will mainly see the grease XRD pattern as an amorphous one, like that which you shared above.

Increasing the acquisition time will lower the statistic noise...

then, perhaps, you may see some XRD peaks of your sample powder...

But when the powder concentration is too low, you will fail with this appoach.

I completely agree with Dr.Gerhard Martens remarks and answers. Using too small a quantity of sample powder relative to the amount of grease can significantly affect the accuracy of the results. This is because an excessive proportion of grease may dominate the signal or interfere with the measurement, leading to misleading or less representative data.
