Most of the Farmers/Government authority are using chemical insecticides for management of Locusts but due to highly use of the chemical insecticides we are facing the problems like environmental degradation, health hazardous and losses of beneficial insects.

Bio-alternatives could be quite safe esp the alternatives that contain Nosema locustae, a microsporidial pathogen (acting as bait) of grasshoppers/locusts which infects the fat bodies of most species of grasshoppers and some crickets. Infection and sickness to the locust/grasshoppers from the insect pathogen begins upon ingestion of the bait by the grasshopper. Insect death will begin in 3- 6 weeks. The insect pathogen multiplies in infected insects and will pass from one to another and can remain active for several years. Various toxicity tests showed that Nosema locustae does not harm mammals, birds, fish, aquatic invertebrates, or honeybees.
