i would like to know what could be the major challenges and problems that hinder the use of BIM practices and applications in the construction projects that are being done in developing countries, and also what could be the solutions to overcome these.

Good morning
I would suggest that the greatest challenges are likley to come as a result of the financial and the infrastructural limitations. The cost of purchasing and maintaining licenses for designer where there salaries are counted only in few hundred dollars or less per month is unlikley to make a viable business solution, as it can represent a disproprtionate burden on the office as well as on the project budget. Similarly, there will be limitations in relation to the IT infrastructure (e.g. fast broadband, local shared platforms to host the model and facilitate collaboration), training oportunities, local standards, legal and professional indementity insurance framework to support the BIM delivery and so on.
A would suggest that a development of a stable and supported open source BIM platform may contribute to the uptake of BIM both in developing and middle income countries.

For implementation of BIM in developing countries needs the mind-set change meaning to say all stakehoders (contractor, client, architect, engineers) should be on same page and respond. IT infrastructure also play an important role in BIM
I would take sides with Nasir Shafiq on this topic. The experience in Nigeria is that BIM applications are still conceived as CAD with the addition of visualization (rendering etc.). Collaboration (which is the core principle behind BIM) is almost non-existent during the design stages. Hence, the AEC industry in countries like this, still use the traditional consultancy methods where other consultants wait for the initial input from the Architect. This is a major setback for BIM adoption for practical purposes. It all revolves around the mindset of the stakeholders towards BIM as a collaborative tool

in my view the main barrier is the lack of knowledge:
lack of knowledge on the part of the builder or developer that has the role of financing this process, and KNOW wants "BIM" but do not know what they want.
Lack of knowledge on the part of designers who owns the market and did not change its processes considering BIM and have to interact with a new participant in the process: the expert BIM.
Lack of knowledge on the part of self declared BIM specialist, which despite having BIM skills, there is NOT a working methodology on how to interact with the parties involved.
