What are the different parts/modules one needs to implement while implementing an underwater acoustic channel. For example we may need to code:
- Attenuation model
- Spreading pattern of the signal
- Propagation speed of the signal.
What else may be required? I need this for implementation of my underwater sensor network localization scheme. Please advice. I am too confused abt it.

The enviromental noise is of crucial importance in the underwater channels, assuming the noise as Gaussian noise is a harsh one. Depending on the frequency band you are using, you may need to chose an appropriate noise model. The Doppler can not be neglected anymore. Finally, the communication in the UWA channel is wideband so any assumption related to the the ratio between the frequency and the bandwidth shall be omitted. The latency is very important factor as well.
I recommend checking Milica's Stojanovic work, in her group they have many implementation.
Yo may also need to know :
-the c (speed of sound) depth profile
-the seafloor layers, including attenuation/absortion depending on the material
-3D bathymetry if possible
This will give a more accurate results in the calculations of transmission/attenuation

Dopier effect and the noise are the two major concern in the case of underwater acoustics communication OFDM is frequently being used fro communication in recent works. another major concern is to efficiently estimate the channel .
