My answer is based on observations of what attracted students in my University, who joined the faculty of science in their first year, to select chemistry from the second year on.
As you know, 1st year students will take general courses in all branches of science over 2 semesters. From these courses, they judge to what direction they will go. Surprisingly, it is not the science which has the major influence upon their decision but the character of the instructor(s). I have been advisor to many students for years & many times I asked them about what brought them to the "tiring" chemistry specialization. It was the first instructor(s) who taught them chemistry. You will hear them saying, e.g., s/he is modest &humble, is NOT arrogant, treats the students well in a just manner, initiates deep thinking through discussions, is polite...etc. In short, the ethics of the scientist(s) are what attracted them more than the knowledge.
Undoubtedly, your capacity to construct society. Your ability to solve specific problems in any area of conocmiento, besides being able to communicate their findings to the world, for that knowledge is universal.
