This was a microfabricated three-electrode system: Au working electrode, Pt counter and (pseudo)reference electrode. Au was immobilised with a SAM of electrochemical sensor. As shown in the attached picture.
After a few rounds of CV scan (from -0.45 to 0V & 0 to 1.5V) in 1xPBS containing analyte (e.g ATP), the Pt counter electrode seems to be passivated. A layer of white stuff was coated on it and the electrical signal got affected.
Could any one give insights on what's happening on the Pt CE and how to avoid this problem?
