Most of the acetylation process uses acetic anhydride for the purpose of acetylation but what is other option for such procedure if acetic anhydride is not available?
Acetyl chloride, acetyl bromide, acetic acid, acetylimidazole, vinyl acetate etc.
What are you acetylating?
Acetic acid and DIC, DCC or EDC in DCM is very easy and rapid. In the case of alcohol you must add DMAP (0.1eq) and in the case of amines do not.
Is much better in the case of primary or secundary amines only heating this in AcOEt (60oC, 24 h) allowing the quantitative acetilation.
Acetyl chloride, acetyl bromide are very sensitive to humidity and more expensive.

DCC in acetonitrile is a good choice, in my experience DMAP was not required for phenols. Once the reaction has finished put it in the fridge overnight and almost all of the DCU will precipitate out.
CAN WE USE ACETIC ACID ALONG WITH ALUMINIUM CHLORIDE FOR ACETYLATION.
