The %Removal of the pollutant and adsorbent capacity depends on many factors such as initial pollutant concentration, the dosage of adsorbent, pH of the solution, contact time, and temperature. You must see the effect of each of these parameters on the adsorption equilibrium and kinetics. For kinetics, you can try PFO (pseudo-first order), PSO (pseudo-second order), Weber-Morris model, and Boyd's kinetic models to understand the mechanism.
You can refer to this article for your equilibrium and kinetic studies Article From wild thornbush to high-performance activated carbon usi...
Some of my observations are as follows
Absorbent capacity increases with increasing initial pollutant concentration as more vacant sites on the adsorbent will be occupied by the pollutant molecules.
The absorbent capacity decreases with increasing adsorbent dosage due to the lower utilization of available sites.
To understand the effect of the pH of the solution on the performance, you should first know about the point of zero charge (pHpzc) of the adsorbent and pKa of the pollutant.
If it is a batch study, several factors favour quick removal of pollutants, like, temperature, particle size, initial pollutants concentration, inner space available in an adsorbent particle, pollutant size, pore space in the adsorbent, etc.
the sudden decrease in pollutant concentration shows the affinity of the pollutants toward the the adsorbate and as well said by Mr. Mahesh these factors are responsible.
I am not agree with the comments of Mr. Rajesh: i.e.,
Absorbent capacity increases with increasing initial pollutant concentration as more vacant sites on the adsorbent will be occupied by the pollutant molecules.
The absorbent capacity decreases with increasing adsorbent dosage due to the lower utilization of available sites.
As the adsorbent capacity is the property of adsorbent that how much pollutant it can extract per unit mass and indpendent of adsorbate/ent concentration
More details. Otherwise is just a guess. And it need not be adsorption, but some side effect. What system? What kind of adsorbate and adsorbent? Concetration? etc.
